Little more than a decade ago, Peter moved into his Beechmont pottery, an idyllic rainforest setting populated by parrots and shy wallabies. “I play Bach and look out at the beautiful trees and think my pots reflect that serenity. Clay is a living thing. It reflects how you feel about things. I always see pots as male and female, there is sensuality about them.” These are the words of an artist but Peter Wallace prefers the word “artisan”, saying his inspiration is summoned through attention to detail and through regular and disciplined work.

We are potters and conservationists living in a rural location in tropical Australia. Long woodfirings in our anagama yield natural ash effects as in the images below. Wood is used in the salt-glaze kilns for economy and for the pleasure of the process.
