Adrian Newstead began selling Aboriginal Art in Australia and Aboriginal paintings when he opened Coo-ee Aboriginal Emporium and Art Gallery on Oxford street Paddington in October 1981. For 23 years in this location he presented the highest quality hand made aboriginal paintings, art, artefacts and giftware made by Indigenous people throughout Australia and the Torres Strait Islands.

In September 2002 Coo-ee shop closed its doors for the last time and the business was moved to a beautifully appointed gallery attached to Adrian and Anne Newstead home in Sydney exciting Bondi Beach.

Since first working with Aboriginal artists Adrian has curated and organised more than 300 Indigenous art exhibitions in Australia and overseas involving individual Aboriginal artists and community groups. These have included the landmark touring exhibition New Tracks Old Land (USA and Australia 1992-96) and exhibitions in Lyon, Lusanne, Zurich, Portland, Boston and Seattle.
